چکیده

High Angular Resolution Diffusion Imaging (HARDI) improved many neurosurgical areas due to its ability to represent complex intra-voxel structures, but is limited for clinical use mainly due to long acquisition times, but also due to noise. To transcend these limits, our work addresses these problems by combining a state-of-the-art multi diffusion tensor model enhanced with spherical ridgelets. Spherical ridgelets are able to reconstruct a signal based on a limited number of measured directions by utilizing compressed sensing. This concept shows that combining spherical ridgelets with a multi diffusion tensor model can improve the accuracy in case of low signal-to-noise ratios and makes it possible to use less than 15 directional measurements per voxel.

Determination of Fiber Direction in High Angular Resolution Diffusion Images using Spherical Harmonics Functions and Wiener Filter

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) MRI is a noninvasive imaging method of the cerebral tissues whose fibers directions are not evaluated correctly in the regions of the crossing fibers. For the same reason the high angular resolution diffusion images (HARDI) are used for estimation of the fiber direction in each voxel. One of the main methods to specify the direction of fibers is usage of the spher...

Sparse Multi-Shell Diffusion Imaging

Diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) is an important tool that allows non-invasive investigation of neural architecture of the brain. The data obtained from these in-vivo scans provides important information about the integrity and connectivity of neural fiber bundles in the brain. A multi-shell imaging (MSI) scan can be of great value in the study of several psychiatric and neurological...

Evaluation of White Matter Tracts in Autistic Individuals: A Review of Diffusion Tensor Imaging Studies

Introduction: Many cognitive and social deficits in autism are caused by abnormal functional connections between brain networks, which are manifested by impaired integrity of white matter tracts. White matter tracts are like the "highways" of the brain, which allow fast and efficient communication in different areas of the brain. The purpose of this article is to review the results of autism st...

Differentiation of Edematous, Tumoral and Normal Areas of Brain Using Diffusion Tensor and Neurite Orientation Dispersion and Density Imaging

Background: Presurigical planning for glioma tumor resection and radiotherapy treatment require proper delineation of tumoral and peritumoral areas of brain. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is the most common mathematical model applied for diffusion weighted MRI data. Neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) is another mathematical model for DWI data modeling. Objective: We stud...
